The Main Display
Top Row Menus. The the main top row pulldown menus are described under Top Row Fixed Menus .
Second Row Toolbar Contains control buttons and a pulldown puzzle list. Each item has a help tip that appears when the mouse is on top.
Filter Mode Icon. Shows which filter is currently selected. Clicking once will advance to the next filter. The filters are CELL, cells containing all the selected candidates, HATCH, cells seen by selected clue or cell, HIDE, all candidates except for the selected digit(s), and TRUTHS, bi, tri, quad etc. values and locals.
Digit Selector The digits from 1 to 9. Click to select, Control Click to add or subtract from a multi-candidate selection.
Hide Candidates and Logic Icon. This function will hide all candidates and logic allowing a user to solve a puzzle without seeing any information. Some filters may still be active.
Make Puzzle Icon. Press this icon once to make a new puzzle. If the puzzle maker is set to "Evolve", the puzzle will continue to get more difficult until the icon (now an OK-hand) is pressed. If a difficulty level is set then the puzzle maker will stop at or before that difficulty level. Puzzle maker settings are in [ Settings ] / [ Puzzle Maker ].
Solver Icon. This icon will bring up Xsudo's Slightly Human Puzzle Solver, described under [ Help/Slightly Human Solver ]
Logic Edit Mode Icons [C-A-T], sets the logic edit mode, which can also be set under the main [ XSUDO ] menu. The icons are:
Edit Candidates Icon. [C] Manually place and edit candidates. Truths and Links are automatically placed. If eliminations are found, un-needed links are removed.
Edit Truths, Auto Icon. [A] Manually place and edit truths. Linking is automatically placed. If eliminations are found, un-needed links are removed.
Edit Truths Icon. [T] Manually place and edit both truths and links. The results are automatically analyzed.
Delete/Assign Icon. Delete all current eliminations (shown as red/orange candidates in the grid) and assign all current assignments (shown as green candidates).
Dropdown Puzzle List This list box holds a list of all puzzles in the currently opened puzzle file. The currently opened puzzle file will be the default file, xsudon.sud, unless the user has opened a different file.
Load Icon (an open folder) Open/reload the puzzle currently displayed in the dropdown puzzle list. See [ Help/Basic/Files ]
Puzzle File Explorer Icon Opens the Puzzle Filte Explorer (PFE).
Redo/Undo Icons (2) Redo and undo functions that apply for almost all edit operations.
Left/Right Icons (2) Select between multiple logic solutions for this grid in the editor. The editor can hold about 5000 logic designs. (Same function as Left Right Arrow Keys.)
Bottom Status Bar. Various information including path number, number of paths in the edit buffer, and currently displayed truth and link lists, (base and cover sets).
Center of Display
Sudoku Grid. The 2D or 3D puzzle and logic display area. 3D movement is controlled by the mouse. 3D mode can be entered or exited by double right clicking near the middle of the grid.
Grid Scaling The grid can be scaled in the [Settings] menu to a smaller sizes for both 2D and 3D displays. The scaling also applies to graphical output (images). Smaller images are more convenient for internet posting.
Window Scaling The Xsudo window can be scaled to show only the center grid and top menu areas using the conventional Windows maximize icon in the upper right frame region.
Left Display
Cell Filter Icon. Selects the CELL filter mode, cells containing all the selected candidates,
Hatch Filter Icon. Selects the HATCH filter mode, cells seen by selected clue(s) or cell(s).
Hide Filter Icon. Selects the HIDE filter mode, all candidates except for the selected digit(s).
Truth Filter Icon. Selects the TRUTH filter mode, shows bi, tri, quad etc. values and locals, number of truths is set with the digit selector.
Filter mode - One of the five built in filters ( Cell, Union, Truths, Hide, Hatch).
Transparency Slider Controls the transparency of the cube's "grid top" in 3D, and the visibility of logic in the 2D mode.
Transparency Slider (+Shift Key) Controls the intensity of cell highlight colors..
On Screen Values, Helpful numbers and values.
Edit mode - The current editing mode, (Truths, Candidates, Auto).
Solutions - The number of possible solutions to the current puzzle.
Assigned - The number of assigned clues in the current grid.
Candidates - The number of candidates in the current grid.
Assignments - The number of possible assignments for the current logic.
AURs found - The number of valid, user-entered AURs that Xsudo found.
Cover Groups - The number of cover set groups found, in the cover set function.
Virtual Cand. - The number of virtual truths in the virtual candidate set.
Activity Log Various things that happened, didn't happen, or should not have happened.
Right Display
Puzzle Solution The solution to the current puzzle, if the option has been selected in the [Settings] menu.
